Breast cancer can be treated with either mastectomy or with lumpectomy. In some patients who undergo lumpectomy, they may also be a candidate for intra-operative radiation therapy. Patients who are undergoing lumpectomy, may also have breast implants previously placed. During intra-operative radiation therapy, the implant is removed. During this time, a patient may wish to have their implants replaced. The photograph depicts before and after oncoplastic reconstruction of a lumpectomy defect, intra-operative radiation therapy, and removal and replacement of mammary prosthesis.
