Often the nasal tip, nasal bones, and nasal septum may be distorted from previous trauma. Trauma to the nose frequently results in a deviation of the nose and can often result in loss of projection to the nasal tip depending upon the trauma to the underlying septum and lower lateral cartilages. Trauma to the septum can result in nasal airway obstruction, by obliterating the internal nasal valve or external nasal valve configuration. The internal nasal valve can be supported with the use of spreader grafts constructed from the nasal septum. Not only can the spreader grafts improve the nasal airway, the spreader grafts have a secondary benefit of helping to maintain a straighter dorsum. The nasal tip is better configured when projection is restored to the nose as well as elevating the nasal tip.
