Breast reconstruction is a complex and challenging aspect of plastic and reconstructive surgery. There are numerous medical, surgical, and adjunctive procedures to take into consideration when planning reconstruction. As oncoplastic reconstruction of lumpectomy defects gains popularity, the plastic surgeon plays an important role in facilitating the care of the patient for the oncologist, surgical oncologist, and radiation oncologist. This integral role becomes even more important in the recurrent breast cancer patient.
