The abdominoplasty is a common procedure that many women have after having children. Women will often state that despite proper diet and exercise, they just can improve the appearance of their lower abdomen. Sit-ups, crunches, kettlebells, yoga, or Pilates does not improve the lower abdominal contour despite consistency. The abdominoplasty involves elevating the skin of the lower abdomen and then tightening the rectus muscles above and below the umbilicus. The greatest area of abdominal wall laxity is below the umbilicus where babies were carried for 9 months at time. The plication or tightening of the rectus abdominus muscles can restore a more youthful appearing waistline.
